Siam Sinfonietta •

a different kind of youth orchestra

There are already several excellent programs in the city for young people to play classical music.

But the Siam Philharmonic, one of Thailand’s most pioneering symphony orchestras, is creating a new kind of youth orchestra, The Siam Sinfonietta, which is specially designed for young people with a serious desire for a career in concert music.  It is intended to be a complete educational experience on a par with equivalent ensembles in Europe.

• emphasis on excellence: only young musicians of the highest caliber will be accepted after a rigorous audition process

• Thailand’s most internationally renowned musicians as directors of the orchestra

• regular guest conductors from Europe and the U.S.

• a complete grounding in the basic core repertoire essential for symphony orchestras throughout the world

• special training camps

• national and international touring

• a higher upper age limit to include musicians who are already young professionals

• personalized attention to every member of the orchestra from the directors, including detailed performance reports to parents and teachers, professional evaluation, guidance in taking international board exams

• members must audition every year to retain their membership

• regular classes on the history, background and context of classical music so that the orchestra understands more about the music it is playing
